The forest bio-energy sector is developing rapidly in Ontario and across Canada, and harvesting residues are emerging as an important source of industrial feedstock. The bio-energy sector has the potential for many social and economic benefits, including new and diversified markets and renewable source of energy.

The potential to generate renewable, affordable electricity and heat from local forests could be a game changer for the communities within the NSFC region.  Greater energy independence could free up local dollars and attract new investment and industry.  Community based forest biomass energy could assist in diversifying their local economies, recreating prosperity and stability, and reasserting control over their social and economic futures.
