NEW SAWMILL IN NORTH CREATES BUZZ
McGuinty Government Helps Wood Products Manufacturer Create Jobs

Ontario is helping Niska North, one of the largest cedar manufacturers in eastern Canada, launch its new sawmill operation. The Province is investing $1.5 million to help the business invest in equipment, renovations and construction costs.

The sawmill will create up to 40 jobs over the next three years. Niska North produces high-quality cedar and white pine lumber and will make log homes, flooring, decking and other products. Ontario invested $320,000 in 2008 to help the company get started.

Promoting growth and investment in northern Ontario is part of the government’s plan for a strong economy.

QUICK FACTS

The sawmill is located in the heart of the Boreal and Great Lakes-St. Lawrence forests of northern Ontario.
Local First Nations investors own 51 per cent of Niska North.
Since October 2003, the McGuinty government has invested more than $400 million to help create 11,320 jobs and 251 co-op placements in the North.
