Commercial Blueberry Production Business Plan
The NSFC plans to employ an innovative business-ownership model – one that will act like a cooperative and ensure the longevity of the wild-blueberry venture. To finance the blueberry venture and
create initial employment of two full-time and two seasonal jobs, the corporation will apply for grants
and interest-free loans over five years, which will help the farm generate sales of over $700,000 by year sales that will continue to grow and double as the fields become more mature. In addition to creating
direct employment, the venture will generate spin-off businesses in the value-added industry.
Accordingly, the loan will help support growth, as well as increase employment in the community.

Opportunities in the NTFP Industry (Literature Review)
The development of this report is a compilation of existing research as a basis to investigate the potential for sustainable development of non-timber forest products (NTFPs) from the forests of the Northeast Superior Region. Research has indicated that non timber forest products can provide added economic value to rural, Aboriginal and forest based communities as a supplement and/or alternative to traditional forestry activities. This approach must be cautioned as there is a risk of creating an environment with a non-sustainable harvest, in some cases, causing depletion of harvested resources and negative impacts to the habitat and surrounding ecosystem. The forest offers multiple values such as providing habitat to wildlife and plants, providing ecological services such as water and air purification, providing sustenance for Aboriginal communities who hunt and fish, and providing spiritual and recreational value for humans throughout the world.
