Strategic Council
The Strategic Council will serve as the rudder of the NSFC ship. It’s role will be to steer the corporation through the process. It is recognized that the power of our model lies in the willingness of theses partners to work together as a collective. This planning body is being developed by combining the existing economic development capacity of the municipalities with advisors and research capacity. The Strategic Council will have six principle functions.
- It will provide community and economic planning advice to the NSFC. The board will develop a regional strategy which involves all communities/municipalities and the First Nations communities in the region. In fulfilling this role it will undertake studies wherever necessary, engage consultants, work with senior levels of government, and seek funds on behalf of the NSFC.
- It will, when directed by the NSFC, initiate and/or coordinate projects that have been identified as crucial to the region’s economic and social development.
- It will work to develop the capacity of the people of the NSFC to manage their forests and to develop a sustainable forest-based economy
- It will continue to implement projects that have been priorities in the region for the past several years
- It will work with private sector and governments on policy.
- It will oversee research on productivity in the forest.
